Self-realization or also self-actualization is an expression used in Western psychology, philosophy, and spirituality; and in Indian religions. In the Western understanding it is the “fulfillment by oneself of the possibilities of one’s character or personality” In the Indian understanding, self-realization is liberating knowledge of the true Self, either as the permanent undying atman, or as the absence (sunyata) of such a permanent Self.
Self-actualization and self-realization are two concepts in psychology, philosophy and spirituality that refer to the achievement of the possibilities and potentials of the self. Both terms may mean the goal or motivation that drives a human being, the process of achieving one’s potentials, or the state achievement of said potentials.
